7. Salad dressing

Another food item that’s pretty high in salt is salad dressing. What’s even more, some popular brands tend to add sodium-containing additives, too. Disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate are usually added to enhance the flavor.

On average, a 2-tablespoon serving of salad dressing packs around 300 milligrams of sodium, or about 13 percent of the RDI. Still, some salad dressing brands can have as many as 620 milligrams per serving.

Whenever you want to buy salad dressings, check the nutrition labels to opt for a low-in-sodium brand. However, the best thing to do is to avoid them entirely. Use vinegar and extra virgin olive oil if you want to boost your fresh salads!
