5. Cottage cheese

Wai… what?! Cottage cheese is high in salt?!

Well, yes… I don’t want to tell you this, but your favorite dairy choice may do more harm than good. Although cottage cheese is an incredible (and tasty) source of calcium, good for building and maintaining strong bones, it is also pretty high in salt.

A half-cup serving of your favorite cottage cheese packs as much as 350 milligrams of sodium, or 15 percent of the RDI. And even if the salt in most cottage cheese is not added to enhance the flavor but to preserve the texture, it’s still not good for you.

If you still want to eat cottage cheese, a small study, or better said, experiment discovered that rinsing cottage cheese under running water for only 3 minutes could minimize sodium content by as much as 63 percent.
