Dairy

Increased gas can be one symptom of lactose intolerance. Lactose is a sugar found in most dairy products, including milk, cheese, and ice cream. There are people who don’t produce enough of the enzyme lactase and have difficulty digesting lactose. Suppose you think you may be lactose intolerant.

In that case, you should try reducing your symptoms by trying non-dairy replacements such as almond milk or soy “dairy” products or taking a lactase tablet before eating foods containing lactose. This can even be true for people who don’t have lactose intolerance due to the sugars in dairy foods.

Keep in mind that as our bodies age, we tend to produce less lactase, so dairy foods may become a gas-causing problem. To reduce gas, try decreasing some of these dairy products: Buttermilk, heavy cream, ricotta, cream cheese, milk, ice cream, and any other processed foods containing milk products.
