1. Shrimp
No matter how you choose to buy it, packaged shrimp contains a lot of sodium. Shrimp, in general, is a healthy choice that offers a wide range of health benefits such as enhancing bone strength, promoting prostate health, and aiding weight loss. However, a 3-ounce serving of frozen shrimp contains as much as 800 milligrams of sodium, meaning 35 percent of the RDI.
In contrast, the same amount of fresh-caught shrimp with no additives and salt packs only 100 milligrams of sodium. In other words, it translates to 4 percent of the RDI.
If you don’t really have the option of buying fresh-caught shrimp, forget about frozen shrimp because not all frozen foods are good for you, like veggies and fruits, which, by the way, you can get the same nutrients and minerals, even if they are frozen.
