20 Common Foods You Should Never Put in the Cart

1. Citrus drinks

If you take a closer look at the label, there’s more than just oranges and lemons. According to Lindsey Pine MS, RDN, most citrus drinks only contain about 10 percent fruit juice. You will most likely see fructose corn syrup, several artificial sweeteners, and artificial colors along with this percentage.

The worst part? Some of them may contain oil. It’s best to avoid this type of beverage. Stick to water, or if you want a citrus drink, make your own at home, your taste buds and your body will thank you for it.

2. Vegetable oil

As the saying goes… you get what you pay for, and vegetable oils aren’t far from the truth. Low-budget oils contain high amounts of omega-6 fatty acids. And yes, they are good for our health, but not in large quantities. Getting way too much omega-6 fatty acid content can actually lead to systemic inflammation, resulting in chronic disease.

Pine explains that most refined vegetable oils, especially the cheap versions, are made from genetically modified plants. Instead of opting for refined vegetable oils, you should try Thrive Algae Oil, which contains 90 percent monounsaturated fats, no GMO traces, and even better, it is sustainably produced.
