Top 3 Best Things to Eat Before a Night of Drinking

Who wouldn’t like to wake up the next day after a great party and feel (at least) good to actually enjoy the day as usual? Well, I know I would and, as science proved, whatever we eat or drink before our happy hour actually has a major impact over how much we will torture ourselves the next morning.

Let’s check out some of the best choices (and some real killers) that help us avoid those awful hangovers, as well as bloating, headaches and brain fog.

Best: Protein & healthy fats

In case you didn’t know, the last thing you ate determines how quickly alcohol will get to your brain. A golden rule in this case is that the more you eat, the longer it will take you to feel those oh-so-wonderful (or not) effects of alcohol.

Even though any food is beneficial, scientists have found that eating meals high in protein and fat increase your chances of getting drunk slower.

Best: Fruits and veggies

Unless you are already accustomed to eating veggies the right way at the right time, you’re probably not that much into them. However, these nutritious meal options help you stay hydrated for a longer time, which increases your alcohol tolerance.

“Fruits and vegetables provide antioxidants and vitamins you need to stay healthy, while providing a large dose of water as well,” nutritionist Claudia T. Felty, PhD explains.

Best: Water

Okay, we know it’s not an actual food option, but we just couldn’t avoid mentioning water on our top 3 list on avoiding hangovers. No matter what you eat and how many veggies you get, nothing (especially not soda!) will ever replace the positive effects of water upon your body.

And don’t just stop at a few glasses of water before drinking. The habit is particularly helpful if, for every sip of your beverage, you also get a sip of water. In fact, if you’re into adding ice cubes to your cocktails, even that small habit can truly make a difference!

Of course, do note that if you’re going to drink a lot, there’s probably not much you can do about feeling better the next day. If you do apply these 3 basic tips before a night out, you will definitely notice a difference in how your body reacts to alcohol. Enjoy the party!
