The Foods That Pose a Higher Risk of Developing Cancer

3. Microwave popcorn

Popcorn itself has nothing to do with cancer, but the chemicals found in microwave popcorn bags (perfluorinated compounds) are actually the carcinogenic shadow lurking in America’s favorite movie watching snack. It’s really easy to place that bag in your microwave and satisfy your craving in mere seconds, but it’s definitely  not worth it.

The real problem with perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) is that they actually break down into perfluorooctanoic acid, a well-known chemical that can cause one of the deadliest illnesses in the world (cancer). Perfluorooctanoic acid breaks down as soon as the popcorn bag gets heated.

So, when you enjoy a bowl full of microwave popcorn, you should know that you’re also indulging perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). This chemical can remain for long periods of time in your body, so you’re better of without microwave popcorn.

Now, thanks to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), PFCs in food packaging is forbidden, however, it doesn’t mean that the new packaging is made from “healthy materials”.

Pro tip: Make popcorn the old-fashioned way!
