Prickly Pear
How long has it been since your last prickly pear? If you can’t remember, it’s time to add it to your shopping list. Also known as Opuntia, it is a fruit that comes from the cactus family.
Prickly pear is a well-known fruit in traditional medicine. It has been used as a common treatment for fatigue, ulcers, wounds, and, of course, liver disease. If you are used to drinking prickly pear juice after a hangover, it is a good call. A recent animal study pointed out that its extract can reduce the symptoms of hangovers.
While more human studies are actually needed to determine the connection between prickly pear consumption and liver health, it’s a good idea to eat it as a fruit as well as to enjoy a glass of prickly pear juice when your liver needs help after a boozy night.
