Expired Food: Canned Food
1-2 years past expiration date
In 2015, a team of arctic explorers discovered and ate canned food that was left behind for more than 60, all of which were perfectly safe. Canned food is the least perishable out there. Canned corn, for example, usually has a best-by date of three to five years on the label. But you can eat it for years to come.
The canning process kills microorganisms that cause food to spoil in the first place. Besides that, canned foods are vacuum-sealed, which means there’s no oxygen to make the food degrade.
Other unopened canned goods that made our cut? Beans, fruit, chicken, mushrooms, pasta sauce, and chili. The longer you’re past the expiration date, the more likely its flavor will be affected, but other than that, it should still be safe.

Thank you. Now I know.
very annoying to have to click on each page. can’t you make just one long list?
I spent 1 year and 1 day in Viet Nam. Because the war was going on most of the time we survived on C-Rations. These were the WW2 style, canned foods. all were marked WW2 1943 production date. They were all we had and weren’t all that bad. exception the Lima beans were awful. most were packed in a lot of grease.
When I was cleaning the fridge, I found a flip yogurt that had fallen down behind the drawer. It was nearly a year past the “best by” date. It was my favorite flavor, so I had check it out! It had separated, so I mixed it well, added the mix-in and tried it. It smelled good and tasted fine, so I ate it. That was about 5 yrs ago and I’m still alive and did not get sick.
So… if you have something that you’re wondering about – check it before you toss it out!
