13. Canned vegetables
There’s no reason to highlight fresh veggies’ health benefits, but we’d like to point out the fact that canned ones are not as healthy as you think. To enhance flavor, manufactures are ‘forced’ to add sodium-containing additives to their canned vegetables.
To sum things up, a one-cup serving of canned peas has 620 milligrams of sodium, meaning 23 percent of the RDI. A one-cup serving of canned asparagus has 692 milligrams of sodium (30 percent of the RDI).

Yeah, draining and rinsing could help you reduce the sodium content by as much as 20 percent, based on the veggie, but you’re better off without them. Opt for fresh or frozen veggies instead. As we’ve mentioned before, frozen veggies are as good as fresh ones.
