11 Types of Hunger You Probably Experience Every Day

5. Stomach hunger

For some, it may not be surprising at all to find “stomach hunger” listed here, but it’s not the stomach that suggests us it’s time to eat, but the brain. The brain signals the stomach that we are hungry, not the other way around. That’s why slow eaters eat less. They offer their brains enough time to process the information they receive, namely, fullness.

So, what really happens when stomach hunger strikes? Well… the clue is in our set meal schedule. If your stomach is used to be full in the afternoon, it will want some food even if you are not really hungry. In other words, most times, we eat because the clock says so, not necessarily because we are truly hungry.

How to control it: Choose your “mealtime” carefully, and before eating anything, make sure you’re really hungry. Some people may eat out of boredom, too.
