Scones and bagels
Probably somewhere at the top of the comfort foods list sits the old-fashioned bagel. Dating from the 17th century, bagels have earned popularity among Americans for two main reasons: they are cheap and convenient. But how about healthy?
Most bagels contain lots of carbs, pretty small amounts of protein, and many calories. For instance, a deli bagel has about 350 calories. Plus, they are made with refined flour. If you opt for whole grain varieties (which is highly unlikely), you could get some benefits, as whole grains like oats may promote good digestion and heart health.
