Nutrition Myth: Gluten-Free Is The Way To Go

This one has been circulating around a lot in recent years. But listen, unless you have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, you don’t need to avoid gluten, which is the protein that’s found in wheat, barley, and rye.

Whole-wheat products have excellent nutritional benefits, including essential B vitamins and lots of fiber.

And to be clear, you should be mindful when manufacturers remove gluten because additional sugar, salt, or refined starches are often added into foods to make up for the difference in flavor and texture.

And if you DO follow a gluten-free diet for medical reasons, check the ingredient list and nutrition facts to make sure you are choosing a healthy option.
