Berries

According to nutritionists, berries are some of the healthiest foods that should be added to everyone’s diet. Not only are they delicious, but berries are also very nutritious, as they contain antioxidants, fiber, vitamin C, manganese, folate, vitamin K1 and copper.

According to Joey Thurman, CES CPT FNS, kudos celeb health expert, “anthocyanins from blueberries may reduce oxidative stress, slow aging, and lower the chance of high cholesterol.”

In addition, berries have anti-inflammatory properties, which help your body fight off infection or injury. Berries are also good for people who suffer from diabetes, “because they come with fiber, they can use that in a diabetic diet as a serving of fruit,” said registered dietitian Nancy Copperman, MS, RD, CDN, director of public health initiatives for the Office of Community Health at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in Great Neck, N.Y.

Some studies have shown that berries can improve your mental health. “We think that the effect might be related to a class of compounds called anthocyanidins, which is a type of flavonoid,” explains study author Elizabeth Devore, ScD, an associate epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston. “These compounds found almost exclusively in berries, are known to cross the blood-brain barrier and locate in learning and memory centers in the brain.”
