As a matter of fact, some registered dietitians and wellness experts also use the platform for easy and convenient shopping. So, are you curious enough to find out their favorite Amazon orders?
Read on to discover them!
1. Lorissa’s Kitchen Beef Sticks
These meat sticks are made with 100 percent grass-fed beef raised without added hormones or antibiotics. “When searching for convenient and nutritious snacks, it’s important to not only look for protein but also low sugar content,” says Christina Meyer-Jax, MS, RDN, a registered dietitian nutritionist in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Area.
“One of my favorites is Lorissa’s Kitchen grass-fed beef sticks.” With 6 grams of protein per serving and just one to two grams of sugar, Meyer-Jax says these meat sticks “meet all of my nutrition requirements.”
2. Colavita Premium Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil
The vast majority of grocery store shelves are full of extra-virgin olive oil, but biochemist Mike Roussell, PhD, co-founder of Neutein, favors Colavita Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil. A contestant on the television show Master Chef recommended it to him, he says. “I’ve been using it ever since. I get it via Amazon’s Subscribe & Save,” he says.
“The ease of repeat purchasing and wide product selection makes Amazon a strong ally in your quest for healthy eating,” Roussell says.
3. Somersaults Sunflower Seed Bites
Jessica Levinson, RDN, CDN, New York-based registered dietitian nutritionist and culinary nutrition expert and author of 52-Week Meal Planner, says one of her favorite snacks is Somersaults Sunflower Seed Bites.
“I haven’t been able to find these in many places, and they are a great school snack for my kids because they are nut-free yet a good source of fiber and protein,” she says. “My twin 6 1/2-year-old girls really like the cinnamon flavor.”
4. Bone broth
Bone broth is en vogue, as paleo, keto, and gut-health eaters seek out comforting soups and drinks. But instead of keeping cartons of the beverage around, Meyer-Jax seeks out another form: “I am a big fan of powder-based bone broths,” she says. “They are a great source of gut-friendly protein and are more convenient in a non-refrigerated form.
“The single-serve packs are perfect for throwing in my purse or workout bag. I can mix savory flavors with hot water for a soup, or add unflavored varieties into my smoothies,” she says.
5. Chef’s Cut Tender Beef and Cheddar Cheese Protein Cup
For people who want to consume low-carb, high-protein snacks, this option recommended by Roussell may soon find its way into your Amazon cart: “This ‘protein cup‘ combines my favorite beef jerky with cheese in a pre-portioned and portable container,” he says, adding it has “great flavor, quality beef, and not a lot of sugar.”
6. Califia Farms Unsweetened Almondmilk
“Almond milk can be tricky to shop for,” says Kristen Wilk, MS, RDN, a registered dietitian nutritionist, “as many milk alternatives out there are overly sweetened, but Califia boasts no sugar added because there’s no need. This one delivers every time.”
Wilk says she opts for Amazon to buy her favorite almond milk and other healthy-eating staples because some foods are simply made for online shopping: “the ones that you can depend on for consistency and quality, without needing to examine them firsthand.”
7. Gluten-free flour
Meyer-Jax is a registered dietitian who specializes in working with persons who have food allergies or an intolerance. For her and her clients, it can sometimes be easier to use online shopping to find foods that are compliant with particular diets.
“I love being able to guide my clients to Amazon to find all their specialized diet needs,” she says. “For those who like to bake, it’s great to have a wide selection of gluten-free flour and bake mix to choose from. There often isn’t a one-size-fits-all flour for every recipe.”
8. Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame: Spicy Wasabi
For Charlie Seltzer, MD, DABOM, CEP, a weight-loss, lifestyle, and fitness specialist, snacks have to serve up a pretty hefty daily dose of nutrition. Empty-calorie snacks need not apply. The Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame fits the bill because ” per 1.58-ounce sleeve, it has 200 calories, 20 grams of protein, and 11 grams of fiber,” he says.
Dr. Seltzer opts to buy these snack packs online because “getting the 200-calorie packs makes life easier.”
9. Moon Cheese
It’s a clever name and a great snack, says Lauren Harris-Pincus, MS, RDN, a registered dietitian nutritionist and founder of Nutrition StarringYou and author of The Protein-Packed Breakfast Club.
“Moon Cheese has the crunch of a chip and the flavor and nutrition of real cheese because it’s actually 100% cheese,” she says. “It’s available in three delicious varieties: Gouda, Pepper Jack, and Cheddar, and is low-carb, gluten-free, keto-friendly, and a good source of calcium.”
10. Healing Butterfly Chocolate Matcha Powder
“I purchased this at a spa and fell in love with it,” says Maryann Walsh, MFN, RD, LDN, a registered dietitian in Jupiter, Florida. “It’s only available online or in spas, so to be able to have it in two days [via Amazon] is awesome.”
This matcha makes “a warm, soothing cup of chocolaty goodness, and with only 15 calories and the bonus of probiotics,” Walsh adds.
11. Enlightened Broad Bean Crisps
“These are an amazing protein- and fiber-packed snack that’s vegan and gluten-free,” says Harris-Pincus. “The crisps come in savory and sweet options like sriracha, wasabi, sea salt, onion and garlic, BBQ, sweet cinnamon, and cocoa dusted.” At the grocery store, she was only found two or three flavors, which is why she turned to Amazon.
Harris-Pincus takes these crisps beyond the snack realm, by adding them to some of her favorite recipes. “They are amazing add-ins to salads, soups, trail mix, or chili. You can crush them and use them for breading chicken,” she says. “The sweeter flavors are fabulous with Greek yogurt and fruit for a protein- and fiber-rich breakfast, snack, or dessert.”
