Fruit
Fruits contain a natural sugar-alcohol, sorbitol, which the body has trouble digesting. Lots of fruits also have soluble fiber, which is a type of fiber that dissolves in water. Sorbitol and soluble fiber must both also pass through the large intestines, where bacteria break them down to create hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and methane gas.
Here’s a list of fruits that are known to cause gas. While fruit is good for you, try to eat them on days when you don’t mind being a little gassier than usual. They are:
- Prunes
- Apples
- Apricots
- Mango
- Oranges
- Peaches
- Pears
- Plums
- Watermelon
- …and even Raisins
