Nuts
Do you have a sweet tooth? Instead of reaching for your cookie jar, you should try a healthier alternative: nuts! Almonds are the best choice due to them being high in monounsaturated fats, vitamin E, fiber, and protein.
The magnesium in almonds can also prevent plaque formation and even lowers your blood pressure.
Walnuts are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acid as well, which will reduce “bad” cholesterol and raise “good” cholesterol levels, lowering the risk of plaque buildup in your clogged arteries.
The AHA recommends three to five servings each week. One serving would be equivalent to a handful. And don’t forget that nuts also make a great salad topper.
