3. Apples
It seems that regular apples contain traces of multiple pesticides. It’s worth choosing organic varieties of domestic and imported apples because we don’t know what’s exactly the impact of multiple residues on our bodies when they are ingested regularly.
Ralph C. Martin, Loblaw chair in sustainable food production and a professor in the University of Guelph’s plant agriculture department, says it’s an area in need of research. Rather than tracking arbitrarily set levels of one pesticide at a time, he says, we should be measuring “the cumulative and interactive effect of eating pesticides over time.”
