7. Brazil Nuts
Another mineral most Americans (especially middle-aged ones) don’t get enough of is selenium. Thankfully, Brazil nuts are one of the best—and tasty—selenium sources. According to Sam Presicci, RD, Snap Kitchen lead registered dietitian in Austin, Texas, just a couple of Brazil nuts per day is enough to get the recommended amount of selenium.
However… why do we need selenium, particularly as we age? Among other nutrients and minerals, selenium is responsible for thyroid health, another age-related health concern. But that’s not everything you get from Brazil nuts.
On top of the daily selenium requirements, you’ll also get polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids that will boost your heart health.
