Expired Food: Milk

1 week past expiration date

Dairy milk can last up to one week past its expiration date. But if you aren’t sure, just give it a whiff to see if it’s gone sour. And while we’re on the topic, don’t be afraid of Shelf-stable pasteurized milk.

This non-refrigerated milk is not only better for the environment since it’s typically sold in cardboard or aluminum boxes, but it also lasts for up to a month past its expiration date, and six months it it’s unopened, at room temperature.

Once opened, you can keep the milk in the fridge for between one and two weeks before it officially becomes an expired food.

  1. I spent 1 year and 1 day in Viet Nam. Because the war was going on most of the time we survived on C-Rations. These were the WW2 style, canned foods. all were marked WW2 1943 production date. They were all we had and weren’t all that bad. exception the Lima beans were awful. most were packed in a lot of grease.

  2. When I was cleaning the fridge, I found a flip yogurt that had fallen down behind the drawer. It was nearly a year past the “best by” date. It was my favorite flavor, so I had check it out! It had separated, so I mixed it well, added the mix-in and tried it. It smelled good and tasted fine, so I ate it. That was about 5 yrs ago and I’m still alive and did not get sick.
So… if you have something that you’re wondering about – check it before you toss it out!

  3. Thank you for this great information! It help us to know how to check our foods and not waste them! God bless you all for your hard work and caring for others well being!
