1. Salty foods can cause your fingers to swell.

Did you know that salty foods can cause puffy fingers? The spokesperson for Country Crock Plant Butter, Penny Clark, MS, RDN, CDN, says that consuming foods high in sodium can actually make your body retain way too much water. Health authorities recommend no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day, yet, most Americans actually exceed 3,400 milligrams.

That’s probably because we consume many processed foods that are often packed with tons of sodium. The main contributors to our large sodium intake are burgers, pizza, deli meats, burritos, sandwiches, hot dogs, bread, frozen meals, chips, salad dressings, etc. So, basically, almost everything we eat has lots of salt.

If you experience puffy fingers after treating yourself with a bag of salty chips, it’s normal in general, but if the swelling doesn’t go away after a few days, visit your doctor. You might have an underlying health condition like lupus or arthritis.
