Bananas are high in fiber, low in fat and full of vitamins and minerals. People with diabetes can eat bananas, but there’s an important piece of advice to remember: you shouldn’t consume them when they are overripe. The longer they sit and the browner they get, the sweeter they become. Eating overripe bananas can raise the sugar content and the glycemic index.
However, bananas are also famous for being packed with potassium. A research published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology claimed that diets rich in potassium might help protect the heart and kidney health of patients with type 2 diabetes.
