When you look at a nutrition label for a couple of minutes at your local store, it can feel like trying to escape from a maze or decipher a secret code. All those unpronounceable words placed on the label mean nothing to you? You’re not alone! However, words like “free-range,” “all-natural,” or “fat-free” are obvious (sometimes).
Those words are not far from the truth, but the vast majority of food companies tend to highlight one or two ingredients to convince the consumer to buy their products and hopefully not read through the rest of the ingredients.
So, in order to better understand them, we’ve gathered some pieces of information from two registered dietitians and nutritionists from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics regarding the mistakes we all make while reading food labels.
