Essential Tips to Feel Less Bloated After a Big Meal

This is the holiday season and we all know what it means: tasty foods, delicious desserts and temptations at every step. With so many family dinners and friend vacations, it comes with no surprise that you end up feeling bloated and even get sick.

First of all, let’s figure out why does belly bloating actually happen:

  • You eat too much at once;
  • You’re chewing down too quickly for your digestive system to adjust and break down foods;
  • You’re fasting and then suddenly eat a generous meal.

Of course, the easiest way to prevent bloating (which can last for a whooping 24 hours!) is to eat healthy and moderately. But we all know it doesn’t work that way, right?

Well, here are a couple of key tips to avoid the uncomfortable feelings of bloating:

Drink Water

Most of the meals you may eat especially during the holidays are simply soaked in sodium. If you’re not used to drinking that much water, it may seem weird to add (at least) a couple of glasses to your daily routine. Make sure that you drink a glass of water right before going to sleep and your body will thank you.

Drink Hot Tea

Let’s say you’re already feeling bloated and feel like nothing could make you feel better. Do not despair! Drinking some plain mint tea relaxes your GI tract muscles almost instantly, speeding up the digestion process and making you feel less crampy.

Eat Breakfast

When you eat breakfast, you’re making your stomach slowly get to work. This way, when you eat a bigger meal, the digestion process will happen easier, thus reducing your risk of bloating.
