7. Leafy Greens

Spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and cabbage are all leafy greens, but each of them works differently when it comes to combating constipation and improving regularity.

Still, all of them are nutrient-dense, which means they offer an excellent amount of minerals, fiber, and vitamins with few calories.

Around 67 grams of kale gives 1.3 grams of fiber and has only 33 calories. On top of that, all leafy greens, including kale, are impressive sources of magnesium. Why is this important? Because in almost all laxatives, magnesium is the main ingredient.

Magnesium intake keeps you regular by ‘attracting’ water into your intestines, making it easier to poop. In fact, some studies suggest that even a low magnesium intake could relieve constipation. If you’re looking for more magnesium-rich foods, CLICK HERE.

8. Senna Tea

Senna is a herb extracted from the planet called Senna alexandrina, and it is often used as a tea. This herb has been used in tea to relieve constipation for centuries. In fact, it appears that senna usage dates back to the 9th century A.D.

Plus, senna is approved as a nonprescription laxative by the FDA. It has been shown to soften stools while maximizing stool frequency. In general, its laxative properties tend to appear after eight hours, so it’s a good idea to sip some senna tea just before bedtime.

Unfortunately, just like castor oil, senna tea is not a long-term solution. Long-term use can translate to an imbalance in electrolytes, which can eventually lead to muscle weakness, liver damage, and disordered heart function.

So, drink senna tea only when it’s necessary.
