FODMAPs
FODMAPs is an abbreviation that stands for fermentable oligo-, di-, mono-saccharides and polyols. This group of short-chain carbohydrates are found in many foods which can cause you digestive distress. This group it’s poorly absorbed in the small intestine and go to the large intestine, where it’s used as a fuel for your gut bacteria.
The bacteria break down or “ferment” the FODMAPs, which produces gas and causes bloating and discomfort.
Symptoms of a FODMAP intolerance include:
- Bloating
- Diarrhea
- Gas
- Abdominal pain
- Constipation
