Sulfites
You probably know that sulfites are chemicals that are used as preservatives in drinks, foods (found naturally in grapes and aged cheeses) and certain medications. In other situations, like delaying browning in dried fruits, sulfites are added to prevent spoilage caused by bacteria.
People who are extremely sensitive to sulfites have asthma. Common symptoms of sulfite sensitivity include:
- Hives
- Swelling of the skin
- Stuffy nose
- Hypotension
- Flushing
- Diarrhea
- Wheezing
- Coughing
