Getting the recommended amount of sleep for your age is essential for proper overall health. Adults aged between 18 and 60 should aim for at least 7 hours of quality sleep, while those who are over 65 should close their eyelids for more than 8 hours, as per CDC recommendations.
So, are you getting enough sleep? Poor sleep quality is actually associated with a wide range of health issues. From weight gain to chronic inflammation, sleep deprivation can affect your health in various ways. Unfortunately, sleeping like a baby is easier said than done.
If you’re also struggling to get proper sleep, you’re not alone. Over 79 percent of Americans are not getting the recommended amounts of sleep. And while some of them are trying to solve their sleeping problem, the vast majority don’t even see it as an issue.
Indeed, we can all agree that certain unfortunate events from someone’s life can interfere with his/her sleep quality. Still, if the problem persists, he or she should most definitely seek medical help as soon as possible. Medication helps a lot, but we’d rather prefer the natural way.
With that in mind, let’s find out together which foods you should eat right before bedtime.

I have found that melatonin makes “restless leg symptoms worse and have found that to be so….
Yes it does so does histamines.
Melatonin definitely causes restless leg syndrome related to dopamine.
I have found that GABA works well for me to fall asleep. Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid. melatonin doesn’t help me fall asleep at all. I take GABA an hour before bedtime. GABA is a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Low levels of GABA may be linked to:
Anxiety or mood disorders
Epilepsy
Chronic pain
People take GABA as a supplement to try to:
Improve mood
Relieve anxiety
Improve sleep
Help with premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
You can buy GABA at any vitamin shop.
First…be careful with melatonin. your body produces melstonin on its own. yes as we age that decreases but….if you take melatonin supplements..your telling your body it has enough and doesnt need to produce more..and it will stop production. be sure to take only small doses if you have to. now…for the restless leg syndrome….the most common cause of restless leg is a low iron level. blood test for ferritin levels need to be checked. a ferritin level under 85 is low…..you need an iron supplement ferrous gluconate easier on gi tract than ferrous sulfate…..restless leg will stop.
Very interesting I. just have to watch my potassium
How do you watch your potassium? Is there a potassium reader that you can recommend?
Thanks. I will try
Some of these items I cannot eat or tolerate. Turkey is extremely dry meat and I choke on it and Kiwi is sickening since it has a lot of oil dripping out of it (might as wet take a jar of olive oil and drink it!).
All interesting, will try the tart cherry juice, already know about turkey but almond nuts, hmmm!
Great I love all these food and look forward to trying them, thanks.

Almonds are hard to digest and can disrupt sleep.
White rice is a starchy carb that will only contribute to belly fat if eaten before bed and no more exercise.
Not the best advice .

Found a really good way of relaxing the restless syndrome.. My Dr. told me about it, fill your bathtub up with COOL water just past your ankles and sit on the side of the tub and put your feet in and just let it sit there about 5 to 7 minutes and its gone., I have it, I tried it , it worked…It is something about the nerves in your ankles that water relaxes them..Give it a try..
This article would have been more helpful if it included units of measure used in the U.S. Such as ounces not grams etc.
sure agree with the white rice. Takes a long time to digest.
I thought white rice had high glucose
Awesome, I’m so glad, because I love almonds!
