Making oatmeal in a steam oven is probably the easiest way to lower your “bad” LDL cholesterol. As you probably know, high cholesterol causes plaque to start building up in the blood vessels around the brain, upping this way the risk of ischemic stroke, which is actually the most common type.

If you have several risks of heart disease such as uncontrolled stress, “bad” LDL cholesterol, or family history, you should aim to get your LDL cholesterol lower than 100 mg/dl. Make sure you get 20 grams of soluble fiber a day to keep your cholesterol in check. You should opt for a 3/4-cup serving of oatmeal, because it packs in about 15 percent of your daily recommended soluble fiber.
