Diet plays an important role in determining a person’s overall health and well-being, so it is no surprise that certain foods can ruin the health of your teeth. Actually, when it comes to proper oral health and the overall condition and appearance of your teeth it is really essential to understand that some foods are a no-no.
Read on to discover the foods (other than candy) that are wrecking your teeth.
1. Dried fruit
We tend to think that dried fruits are actually a healthy snack. That may be true, but most dried fruits such as apricots, prunes, figs, and raisins are way too sticky. “Dried fruit is really like eating candy,” says Stephen J. Stefanac, DDS, professor of oral medicine and periodontics at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
“It has that stickiness and high sugar content.” That means that sugar gets stuck between your teeth—leading eventually to cavities (decayed areas of your teeth that develop into tiny openings or holes). Next time you go shopping try to skip the dried variety and opt for fresh fruits instead.
