Pizza Is Healthier Than Breakfast Cereal, as Nutritionist Claims

Milk and cereal is one of the most common breakfast choices around the U.S.. It’s easy to prepare, it’s quick and you really feel like it gives you a boost of energy – not to mention how tasty some brands are!

While the bad news is that most cereal isn’t as healthy as you think, one nutritionist recommends you going for pizza instead. Yep, you read that right.

If you think that doesn’t make any sense, so did I, until I heard RDN, MS and New York-based nutritionist Chelsey Amer’s explanation.

“A slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than most cold cereals, so you will not experience a quick sugar crash.”

And her theory is actually backed up by science. A single cup of Raisin Bran has no less than 18 grams of sugar. Considering that the daily recommended dose is of 25 grams of sugar, cereal are a sure recipe for sugar crush.

As a plus, pizza has more protein than any kind of cereal bowl, which means that you’ll be less likely to get hungry soon or eat unhealthy snacks in the morning.

“Even a second helping of dinner set aside from the previous night can make a healthy breakfast if it’s chock full of veggies and balanced—for example, a generous portion of veggies sauteed in EVOO with herbs tossed with a lean protein, or chicken breast or lentils with a small scoop of quinoa,” suggests Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD and nutritionist.
