2. Turkey

Now I understand why I’m always tired after Thanksgiving… It’s all in the turkey! This type of lean meat contains tryptophan, an amino acid that can give the production of melatonin quite a boost. As we’ve said before, melatonin tells your body when it’s sleep time.

Also, turkey is pretty high in protein. For example, in approximately 26 grams of turkey, there are about 8 grams of protein. And while we all know that protein intake is essential for a healthy mind and body, did you know that it also promotes tiredness?

Several studies concluded that adequate amounts of protein consumed right before bedtime could improve sleep quality, including in those with insomnia. Plus, protein is also responsible for maintaining your muscles healthy and controlling your appetite.

In addition to all those nutrition facts, turkey is a magnificent source of selenium. Only 85 grams of turkey translate to 56 percent of your daily selenium needs.

If you’re used to consuming turkey only on important holidays, such as Thanksgiving, you might want to change that. Turkey has many health benefits that are waiting to be indulged.

    1. I have found that GABA works well for me to fall asleep. Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid. melatonin doesn’t help me fall asleep at all. I take GABA an hour before bedtime. GABA is a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Low levels of GABA may be linked to:

      Anxiety or mood disorders
      Epilepsy
      Chronic pain
People take GABA as a supplement to try to:

      Improve mood
      Relieve anxiety
      Improve sleep
      Help with premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
You can buy GABA at any vitamin shop.

First…be careful with melatonin. your body produces melstonin on its own. yes as we age that decreases but….if you take melatonin supplements..your telling your body it has enough and doesnt need to produce more..and it will stop production. be sure to take only small doses if you have to. now…for the restless leg syndrome….the most common cause of restless leg is a low iron level. blood test for ferritin levels need to be checked. a ferritin level under 85 is low…..you need an iron supplement ferrous gluconate easier on gi tract than ferrous sulfate…..restless leg will stop.

  6. Found a really good way of relaxing the restless syndrome.. My Dr. told me about it, fill your bathtub up with COOL water just past your ankles and sit on the side of the tub and put your feet in and just let it sit there about 5 to 7 minutes and its gone., I have it, I tried it , it worked…It is something about the nerves in your ankles that water relaxes them..Give it a try..

  7. This article would have been more helpful if it included units of measure used in the U.S. Such as ounces not grams etc.
