Olive Oil
Often used as a substitute for butter, olive oil is an essential part of seniors’ diets. Wondering why? Because it contains oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat known for minimizing inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is one of the main factors of heart disease, cancer, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s, so olive oil should definitely be on your grocery shopping list.
Apart from that, olive oil is a pretty good source of vitamin E, which acts as a powerful antioxidant in order to protect your cells from damage. Olive oil consumption does wonders for your bones, too, since it contains a decent amount of vitamin K.
