Eating Breakfast Lowers Your Risk of Diabetes, Research Finds

We already know that having a healthy breakfast is crucial to your energy levels, physical health and even your mood. But when was the last time you actually ate some yogurt, fruits, eggs or cereal that wasn’t a fast food order?

Well, if you’re like me, you probably don’t remember and don’t even have the time to cook a breakfast by-the-book.

Judging by recent studies, though, we should wake up earlier (or at least make our own smoothie in less than 2 minutes) because breakfasts are literally our life savers.

Breakfast Reduces Your Risk of Diabetes

A study published in the Journal of Physiology asked 49 people with ages between 21-60 to eat breakfast or fast until mid-day for six weeks. They monitored their metabolism, body composition and cardiovascular health – and the results were definitely surprising!

For one, participants who ate breakfast decreased the activity of insulin-resistant genes. In other words, these lucky folks now had less chances of developing type 2 Diabetes, as well as heart disease.

And if that doesn’t motivate you enough, check this out: the group of people who fasted showed an increased production of genes linked to inflammation. Although this was only the case for participants suffering from obesity, it doesn’t mean that we should all ignore it.

Aside from these new discoveries, eating breakfast proved once again that it increases your energy levels, productivity and even regulates your hormone balance, which makes you feel better. Well, bon appetit!
