3. Kiwi

Be honest… Have you really thought of kiwi as a sleep-inducing fruit? Because we haven’t. It sounds surprising, but yes, this furry fruit promotes sleep, and we have scientific research that sustains this argument.

The first study involved 24 adults who ate two medium-sized kiwifruit one hour before shutting their eyelids every single night for 4 weeks. When the study was over, all participants reported that they were able to fall asleep faster after consuming kiwi.

Researchers added that some of them fell asleep 42 percent more quickly when compared to when they didn’t consume any food before bedtime. Plus, not only their ability to sleep faster improved but also their sleep time. It seems that some participants’ total sleep time increased by 13 percent.

Now that we’ve exposed the studies. Let’s see which superpower of kiwifruit is responsible for better sleep.

The answer is serotonin. The sleep-promoting powers of kiwis are actually associated with serotonin. It works as a brain chemical that regulates your sleep cycle.

However, some studies say that the antioxidants and carotenoids found in kiwis are also responsible. Still, more research is needed regarding this matter. What we know for sure is that consuming two medium-sized kiwifruits will most likely keep your eyelids closed for longer.

Fact: One medium-sized kiwi provides 71 percent of your daily needs for vitamin C.

    1. I have found that GABA works well for me to fall asleep. Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid. melatonin doesn’t help me fall asleep at all. I take GABA an hour before bedtime. GABA is a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Low levels of GABA may be linked to:

      Anxiety or mood disorders
      Epilepsy
      Chronic pain
People take GABA as a supplement to try to:

      Improve mood
      Relieve anxiety
      Improve sleep
      Help with premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
You can buy GABA at any vitamin shop.

First…be careful with melatonin. your body produces melstonin on its own. yes as we age that decreases but….if you take melatonin supplements..your telling your body it has enough and doesnt need to produce more..and it will stop production. be sure to take only small doses if you have to. now…for the restless leg syndrome….the most common cause of restless leg is a low iron level. blood test for ferritin levels need to be checked. a ferritin level under 85 is low…..you need an iron supplement ferrous gluconate easier on gi tract than ferrous sulfate…..restless leg will stop.

  6. Found a really good way of relaxing the restless syndrome.. My Dr. told me about it, fill your bathtub up with COOL water just past your ankles and sit on the side of the tub and put your feet in and just let it sit there about 5 to 7 minutes and its gone., I have it, I tried it , it worked…It is something about the nerves in your ankles that water relaxes them..Give it a try..

  7. This article would have been more helpful if it included units of measure used in the U.S. Such as ounces not grams etc.
