7. White rice

White rice is definitely a staple food that shouldn’t miss from your pantry. And while it’s an endless dispute regarding the differences between brown and white rice, the only important difference is that white rice has its germ, husk, and bran removed.

This translates to a smaller amount of nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants. However, it doesn’t mean that it’s unhealthy. White rice still packs decent amounts of both minerals and vitamins.

To be more specific, approximately 80 grams of white rice offers 19 percent of your daily folate needs. From the same amount of white rice, you will also get 21 percent of your daily needs for thiamine if you’re a man and, if you’re a woman, you’ll benefit from 22 percent.

Manganese is another important mineral found in white rice (13 percent of your daily manganese needs are obtained from approximately 80 grams of white rice).

The best part? White rice consumption improves sleep quality and the clue is in the glycemic index. It seems that high glycemic index foods make you sleepy.

A large study looked at the sleep habits of nearly 2,000 people who maximized their intake of bread, noodles, or rice. Among all of them, those who consumed rice experienced better sleep quality.

However, don’t exaggerate with white rice. Eat no more than two servings per week.

    1. I have found that GABA works well for me to fall asleep. Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid. melatonin doesn’t help me fall asleep at all. I take GABA an hour before bedtime. GABA is a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Low levels of GABA may be linked to:

      Anxiety or mood disorders
      Epilepsy
      Chronic pain
People take GABA as a supplement to try to:

      Improve mood
      Relieve anxiety
      Improve sleep
      Help with premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
You can buy GABA at any vitamin shop.

First…be careful with melatonin. your body produces melstonin on its own. yes as we age that decreases but….if you take melatonin supplements..your telling your body it has enough and doesnt need to produce more..and it will stop production. be sure to take only small doses if you have to. now…for the restless leg syndrome….the most common cause of restless leg is a low iron level. blood test for ferritin levels need to be checked. a ferritin level under 85 is low…..you need an iron supplement ferrous gluconate easier on gi tract than ferrous sulfate…..restless leg will stop.

  6. Found a really good way of relaxing the restless syndrome.. My Dr. told me about it, fill your bathtub up with COOL water just past your ankles and sit on the side of the tub and put your feet in and just let it sit there about 5 to 7 minutes and its gone., I have it, I tried it , it worked…It is something about the nerves in your ankles that water relaxes them..Give it a try..

  7. This article would have been more helpful if it included units of measure used in the U.S. Such as ounces not grams etc.
