Meatloaf
First, there’s often more filler than meat, but restaurants think if they drown the dish in enough sauce and seasoning, you won’t notice. To help sell it further, many menus use descriptive words like ‘homemade,’ ‘home-cooked,’ ‘home-style,’ or worst of all, ‘Mom’s.’
Next, all that glitters isn’t necessarily gold…..

Disgusting! Thank you for publishing things that we have to know.
Thank you very much. An eye opener with common sense. I stopped going to restaurants for quite some time know this doesn’t mean I’ll never go to one again just not making a habit of going to one and then I pay attention of what they have and remember your good points in healthy nutrition !!
Shalom
Wooo good recommend
This is a wonderful article that makes us aware of good choices when dining at a favorite restaurant.
Never knew we were eating so much crap, THANK YOU
Actually, ordering a popular menu item is safer, since it’s a fast mover and NOT sitting around in the kitchen. Ordering a non-popular item…cook’s will say things like “finally getting rid of that ” ….”it’s about time, that’s finally gone”…”was going to toss that if it didn’t sell tonight”.
Stick with the items that sell the most.
Not so. Ever worked in a restaurant? Didn’t think so….
Who writes this garbage? Obviously someone with very little food service experience. The only one with a bit of truth is the raw oysters./ All the other food if properly handled is perfectly safe to eat
Thank You I don’t eat most of those items listed. I don’t trust restaurant food . UGH !!!
One thing that really needs to be emphasized are Kobe and Piedmontese beef. It’s gotten better because there is now a ratings system, but there isn’t a USDA mandate on the actual amount of either that is listed on a menu or a retail sale. It could contain 5% Piedmontese and the rest is something else, but it doesn’t have to be declared.
I think the real answer is to make your meals at home and probably grow your own food. The world has become a very unclean place and we are now experiencing the consequences of that.
And yet the life expectancy of humans has grown 2.5 times in 100 years!
Yet it has dropped significantly in recent years. Food contamination also has become a greater problem in recent years.
Our grown kids are the first generation who’s life expectancy has gone down. This will be true also of our grandchildren. Look it up. Life expectancy is going down because of foods contaminated with pesticides, animals given hormones and antibiotics, and all kinds of things sprayed on all our food. This was not like this when the baby boomers were growing up. It’s a shame and a terrible way for companies to treat their customers. It’s all about their profits.
ICE was left off list- I’ve read gross stories of: unsafe tap water, moldy tubing, and multiple hands in the bin of a never cleaned device.
Interesting…I’ve had them all l believe,
Also, they seem to be the items to the
“warm-up” to the anticipation of a great meal to come…😋😛
good information, will definitely reconsider how I order, I am a foodie
Did you notice how many of these illnesses were based on meat/seafood? Yet another reason to go plant based.
Not true. Vegetables are mostly water. You go eat overseas and the garden is watered with bacteria you will $hit your pants
Someone once said that fast food places are safer than restaurants because they dont prepare food individually, they just heat up premade sandwiches, and the chance of bad food is less. Makes some sense.
I’m 60, been eating at Restaurants forever. almost every Meal. Eat what I want, never have been sick, from Resturant food. maybe its built up my Immune system? Im a Horrible Cook. I have been sick off my own Cooking. just another side to this Subject.
This is the stupidest article I have read in a long time! Everyone I know, including myself and my family, eats at restaurants ALL the time and not one of us have ever gotten sick from it. These things listed are majorly WHY people go out! I will continue to do as will all my friends and family and ignore this piece of absolute nonsense.
Thank you for the helpful information.
I love each and everyone of those listed foods! They are wonderful and delicious! I will have a double order of each!
doesnt matter what they serve restaurants are now for the rich only with prices double and triple what they were just a few years ago thanks to bidenflation the average working tax paying american wont be able to eat out any more even at fast food places my wife and i went to mcdonalds last week and it cost us almost $40.00 and it sucked
Who writes this garbage? Obviously someone with very little food service experience. The only one with a bit of truth is the raw oysters./ All the other food if properly handled is perfectly safe to eat
She is dumb enough to believe Trump! That all I need to know. She won’t go far.
Thanks for the information on the knowledge of things we should not eat
no article just a picture.
In the past when ordering food i would request something like ask for no or extra on items like onions, pickles, tomatoes etc. That way they have to make it fresh. It may take longer but worth it.
FAKE NEWS! What are you stuck in the 80’s? You must be a joy to feed. Keep our hypochondriac ass at home and stop the fear mongering.
Ty’s for these Informative Information ..
Wow! Great eye opener! Thanks for the info..
I never thought about food things, the way it’s explained here.
Many of the accusations,i.e. “Bread Basket” , go from table to table, if true , VIOLATES foodhandler laws and could get a place of business closed , fined , or shutdown, or both.
Just how accurate this article is , is debatable.
My wife wonders why I prefer to eat at home. Life is a crapshoot.
As a former restaurant manager some other suggestions. Avoid condiments in plastic bottles. Also avoid beverages in plastic cups especially water. By the way during the busy time can you see the manager or owner. They should be visible and checking customers not hiding in the back.
Thanks for the tips. Eating home is the safest way I guess
Thank you so much. This is really life -saving information which I will share with my family.
The best cook is yourself.
Lots of good information here. Unfortunately, to reduce costs, some of these things are done. If you go to restaurants that you’re familiar, take notice of what you can observe. For example, the ones I know throw away left over bread and biscuits. I’ve seen them do it when the bus person make the rounds. Where I’m at restaurants have a grading system. These grades must be posted in front of the establishment after a the Dept of Health inspector visits. If they fail, it’s okay to ask why they failed. Most will tell you why and are in the process of making the corrections. Especially if it’s normally a popular place with good reviews from customers.
The problem here is generalization. A quality restaurant probably (there will be exceptions) will have procedures in place to eliminate many of these issues. Even lower-end restaurants have to meet standards and certification is required, at least here in Michigan. That isn’t to say some establishments don’t skirt the rules, but the implication from the article is that these are extremely common in the industry in the US.
Awesome
