Calendula
This edible flower can be a beautiful addition to your summer garden…and to your summer meals! The petals make for a tasty and beautiful addition to soups, rice dishes, and salads.
Daylily
The daylily has delicious buds and flowers that can be used in stir-fries, soups, and even stuffed with some fruit and served as a dessert.
The wild orange types are used most commonly for culinary ambitions, though other kinds of daylilies are also edible.
A few people can’t tolerate daylilies, particularly when raw. Try just a little before cooking up a big pot of daylily soup, and pass on them if you experience nausea or any other gastrointestinal issues.
The green base of the flower is generally thrown away since it has a strong, unpleasant flavor. But unopened buds taste like green beans and are used in meals that call for that veggie.
