12. Aloe Vera
The gel inside the aloe plant’s leaves is called aloe vera latex, and it is commonly used as a treatment for alleviating constipation. Its laxative properties come from a compound called anthraquinone glycoside that is responsible for ‘attracting’ water into your intestines while boosting the digestive tract movement.
Many studies confirmed aloe vera latex’s laxative properties; however, one, in particular, demonstrated its effectiveness by mixing a preparation is which researchers used psyllium, celandine, and, of course, aloe vera.
Experts discovered that the mix between the three is more efficient in softening stools and maximizing bowel movement frequency than aloe vera latex alone.
