A chromium deficiency is actually a wide spread issue. In fact, many people such as athletes, diabetics, pregnant women, and seniors are especially at risk of chromium deficiency leading to impaired insulin function, inhibition of protein synthesis and energy production, and to type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Some people with type 2 diabetes think that taking chromium will help control their disease. However, a review of research published in 2016 in the Oxford Academic Nutrition Reviews suggests that the evidence supporting the benefits of chromium supplements for type 2 diabetes is mixed.
