When Did Fasting First Begin?
Fasting is considered one of the most ancient healing traditions in the background of humanity. The history of it dates back many centuries. It’s been practiced by pretty much every culture and religion in the world.
Mahatma Gandhi is especially known for his lengthy fast, which lasted him 21 days.
But the longest-lasting hunger strike ever recorded was in 1920, by an Irish political prisoner named Terence MacSwiney. This man was on strike for 74 days, and the fasting eventually led to his death.
