5. Chocolate milk
As strange as it sounds, chocolate milk is a doctor’s favorite choice when it comes to breakfast. Even if we don’t think of it as a healthy morning start, a glass of chocolate milk is actually a great source of protein. “I’m a morning workout person, and I always start with a glass of chocolate milk right after my workout,” Dr. Mitzner explains. “It’s convenient. It hydrates. And it’s an immediate source of carbs and protein.”
Susan Besser, MD, a family care physician in Overlea, Maryland, says her go-to weekday breakfast is SlimFast Advanced Nutrition, which is basically a chocolate smoothie powdered mix meant to be combined with milk. Dr. Besser has knows her pick, as she says, “It is quick, I can drink it at work while catching up on charting, it’s relatively low in calories and relatively high in protein, and it keeps me content for several hours.”
