4. Rice

Another food that will last you a long time is rice. Some sources say that if you store uncooked rice in an airtight container, it will stay edible for up to 30 years, but we think that is a little too much.

However, both the USDA and the FDA state that regular white rice will remain edible for up to 5 years after being stored in its original packaging.

5. Peanut butter

…Calling all peanut butter lovers out there! We have news for you!

Experts say that if peanut butter is placed in a sealed, unopened jar, it can keep for up to a year beyond the expiration date, assuming that the container has preservatives.

Remember that opened jars should be refrigerated, but they are only safe to eat for another 3-6 months after the expiry date. Since it contains no water and has enough oil, ordinary peanut butter (sealed) might keep for at least 3 to 5 years.

If you push the limit to around the 9–12 year mark, your peanut butter could become worse. Even though it’s harmless, you probably won’t like the flavor. On the other hand, the delicious hazelnut cream Nutella has a shelf life of just around 2 months beyond the expiration date.

6. Nuts

Nutritionists say that nuts can go bad if you keep them for too long. This food won’t make you sick, but it won’t have a good taste either. If their flavor is weird, it’s best to get rid of them ASAP.

On the other hand, some people say that it’s okay to put this delicious and crunchy food in the freezer if you want to enjoy it longer. Another great hack is that you can toast them in a pan for a couple of seconds to revive their tasty flavors. Have you ever tried something like this?
