7. They minimize bad cholesterol levels

If you’re dealing with high cholesterol levels, you already know that trans fats can raise your LDL (bad) levels. According to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, bananas have LDL cholesterol-lowering effects due to their compounds called phytosterols.

In addition to these amazing properties, bananas also contain vitamin B6, which is responsible for a wide range of benefits (from boosting heart and digestive health to improving nervous system function).

8. They promote good bone health

Despite the fact that bananas don’t have abundant amounts of calcium (less than one percent of your daily recommended intake), they can promote good bone health. How so?

Well… they strengthen your bones by boosting prebiotic fructooligosaccharides. Once they arrive in your digestive tract, fructooligosaccharides enhance your body’s natural ability to absorb calcium.

  1. I always knew that bananas were special and arrived in their own unique packaging, but never knew that they were such a superfood. Thanks for the info.

  2. Thanks for all your information about eating bananas. Personally, I consume bananas on a regular basis and at 92 years old, my health is in good shape. I also eat banana and peanut butter sandwiches,
which are really good. I visited a banana plantation in the Caribbean and it was really interesting to see how they are harvested and made ready for shipment.

  3. Green ones have advantages that yellow ones do not. Green ones ripen into yellow ones. Would eating yellowish-green ones give the best from each type?

  4. I do eat bananas!
Did not realize all the benefits that they provide the body.
Very useful information in regard to the health benefits of bananas.
I shall increase to one per day rather than just a couple per week.
    Thank you
