1. Microwave popcorn

Trust us, we definitely get it! We love microwave popcorn too, especially the cheesy-flavored one! It’s easy to make, convenient, and ready in less than 5 minutes! However, although it tastes good and is easy to pop in the microwave, it’s not the healthiest thing for your body.

There are types of microwave popcorn bags that are coated with a chemical that breaks down into perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) when heated. Liver, prostate, and other types of cancer have been associated with PFOA exposure.

Moreover, chemicals like diacetyl, which are used to simulate butter taste, might be harmful to the lungs. If you don’t want to air pop your own popcorn, you can DIY your own microwave version by using a brown paper bag and some coconut oil.

2. Dairy

We know that dairy tastes good and is full of protein and healthy fats, but consuming too much of it’s actually linked to developing different types of cancer, such as breast or prostate cancer.

Of course, you can consume milk and cheese, but don’t overdo it, as studies have discovered that animal fat found in dairy products has been linked to an increased risk of developing cancer.

3. Farmed salmon

We’re sure you already know that salmon is great for your health and skin, as it contains plenty of fatty acids and protein, which help your body build muscles and improve brain power.

Even though salmon is one of the healthiest types of fish you can consume, farmed salmon contains different substances that are linked to causing cancer. The Environmental Working Group found that the number of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in farmed salmon was 16 times higher than the amount found in wild salmon.

60% or more of the salmon eaten in the United States is farmed salmon, and it’s tainted with antibiotics, insecticides, pesticides, and other toxins.

If you’re not fully convinced why it’s best to consume wild-caught salmon instead of farmed salmon, here’s something that might convince you: besides PCBs, they also contain high amounts of mercury and cancer-causing dioxins because of their diet (which was specifically created to make them seem reddish-pink).

4. Canned tomatoes

Bisphenol-a (BPA) is a chemical used in the lining of most food cans and has been linked to cancer and other major health concerns. Because canned tomatoes are very acidic, it’s more likely that they will take in too much BPA from the can lining.

Tomatoes are great for your body as they contain plenty of vitamins and minerals, but if you want to get all those amazing benefits, you should stick to fresh tomatoes and avoid canned ones.
