11. Seeds
Seeds, in general, are awesome sources of heart-friendly nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. Many studies demonstrated their benefits regarding heart health. For instance, one study found that hemp seeds can reduce blood levels of some inflammatory markers due to arginine, an amino acid found in them.
Another study pointed out that flaxseed help keep both cholesterol and blood pressure levels under control. Only 30 grams of flaxseeds consumed regularly can decrease systolic blood pressure by even 10 mmHg while reducing diastolic blood pressure by 7 mmHg.
Even flaxseed bread is great! Those who eat bread made with flaxseed could see a significant reduction in both total and LDL cholesterol.
12. Garlic
Garlic has many medicinal properties, including heart health improvement. This is possible due to the powerful compound called allicin. Did you know that if you take garlic extract for about 24 weeks, you can reduce your blood pressure levels? Although we do not advise you to try this (unless you’re under medical observation), garlic has indeed only good things to offer.
One review of 39 studies found that garlic can minimize total cholesterol by 17 mg/dL, on average, and LDL cholesterol by 9 mg/dL in those who deal with high cholesterol levels. Other studies show that garlic extract can minimize the risk of stroke and blood blots by inhibiting platelet buildup.
