7. Other specified feeding or eating disorder
Other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED) includes conditions that carry many of the same symptoms as anorexia and bulimia—problematic eating patterns, distorted body image, and the fear of gaining weight—but don’t meet other requirements necessary for a clinical diagnosis of those aforementioned conditions, Riddick says.
Riddick also notes that patients with OSFED can experience a mix of physical and psychological symptoms, “including weight loss/gain/fluctuation, signs of damage due to purging, fainting and dizziness, heightened anxiety and/or irritability around meal times, preoccupation with food and eating, extreme body dissatisfaction,” and rigid definitions about food being “good” or “bad.”
