You have bad breath
Bad breath can be a symptom of many diseases, but the main reason is a low-carb diet. Medical experts say that people who follow a low-carb diet are more likely to develop halitosis (also known as bad breath).
“When you don’t eat enough carbs, the body burns fat and protein for fuel. It does so by a process called ketosis. Unfortunately, using protein and fat for fuel can cause smelly breath,” says Smith.
We have to admit that low-carb diets may be good for your abs, but the side effect may be bad breath. “Carbohydrates aren’t readily available, so you start to use other fats and proteins as your source of energy, and as a result, you are going to get a breath problem,” said Kenneth Burrell, DDS, the senior director of the council on scientific affairs of the American Dental Association.
