Asparagus isn’t safe to eat when you’re a gout sufferer. When referring to purine content, this veggie sits on the ‘moderately high’ purine food category. Other vegetables that are high in purine include cauliflower, spinach, peas, and mushrooms. It is okay to eat them from time to time. So, avoid eating too frequently or in large portion sizes the veggies we’ve mentioned.
Note that most gout patients are able to remove purines from veggies much better than they do from meat, so you should still consume asparagus, spinach, or mushrooms as they provide essential vitamins for our health, but remember that moderation is key.
