Not everything that comes in a box with the “healthy” word written on it is actually healthy. In fact, many foods we thought were healthy are actually far from it. Unfortunately, it can be quite difficult to select the good from the bad. Thankfully, some nutrition experts reveal the unhealthiest foods we buy all the time at the grocery store—read on to discover them!
1. Citrus beverages
“The label looks more like a complicated science experiment than a beverage,” says Lindsey Pine MS, RDN. “These drinks have at most 10 percent juice, according to their ingredient lists. Not only do they have high fructose corn syrup, but they also have three different sources of artificial sweeteners in addition to artificial colors.”
And, unfortunately, there’s more. At least one brand of this type of juice contains oil. Water is obviously the best option when it comes to hydration, but if you need a fruit fix, Pine recommends diluting 100 percent fruit juice with water. Juice is thought of as “a healthier choice” than soda, but sometimes looks can be deceiving.
